Drop in Class: BIG! MESSY! Outdoor Play!

Single class on the date of your choice!

Service Description

BIG! MESSY! Outdoor Play! Bring your children to FDR Park for a messy, good time that can only be had outdoors. With activity stations focused on sensory experience, creative process, and movement, children will be free to explore materials in their own way and in their own time. This class is appropriate for all ages, as toddlers and tweens will be able to engage differently. Even parents can get in on the fun, and leave the clean-up to us! (Messy clothes or bathing suits suggested - bring a towel and we’ll hose the kids off after class.) Class Description: Classes begin with a self-directed activity. Young people are then invited to explore art, movement, sensory, and water stations, and to play and experiment with the materials in the natural environment. You are purchasing a SINGLE DROP IN CLASS on the date of your choice. All classes meet 10-11am. Teaching Philosophy: This class is grounded in the belief that children are people. Children are always invited but never required to participate in any activity. Some children have a hard time sitting through a structured time, prefer to observe rather than actively engage or want to pursue specific interests and that's ok. Families are welcome to engage in the class in whatever ways work best for them. Content will be explored via respectful communication while modeling early community building skills and meeting young children where they are. Recommended Ages: All ages, toddlers to tweens Location and Weather: Classes are held outdoors at FDR Park, rain or shine, so please dress for the weather! We have access to an event-style tent, which we'll use during inclement weather. Exact location will be shared once you register. Registration: Join our 3-week series for $42 ($14.00 per class) or $17.00 for drop in classes. Pre-registration is required. Accessibility is important to us! If you are interested in joining but the cost is prohibitive, please reach out to us at hello@thedandelionproject.us for adjustable pricing. We need at least 10 registrants to run this series. About the Instructor: Briana Feinberg is a former special education teacher, school librarian, museum educator, and co-founder of the South Philadelphia Cooperative Playschool. She fell in love with nature education while attending a class with her 18-month old son at Tyler Arboretum. She ended up joining Tyler's education staff for several years and is thrilled to be able to introduce city kids to the joys of our natural world.
