 Dandelion After School Facilitator

We're Hiring: After School Program Facilitator
Part-Time | Weekday Afternoons | Philadelphia, PA

Are you passionate about creating joyful, affirming spaces for young people? Do you believe in the power of play, autonomy, and authentic connection? Join us at Dandelion After School, a self-directed, social-emotional learning program rooted in care—for ourselves, each other, and the environment.

About the Program

The Dandelion After School program blends creative play, meaningful relationships, and youth-driven exploration to help children grow into themselves and their communities. Each day includes a mix of group games, hands-on projects, and neighborhood adventures. Kids explore their interests, build friendships, and practice essential life skills—all in a space that respects their autonomy and individuality. We serve youth ages 5–12 from local elementary schools and homeschool communities, with a focus on inclusion, equity, and joy.

About the Role

We’re looking for a facilitator who brings warmth, creativity, and a deep respect for young people. You’ll help co-create a space where kids feel safe, seen, and free to be themselves—while supporting their social and emotional development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Co-creating a welcoming, respectful, and affirming environment for all participants

  • Supporting youth in navigating conflict, big feelings, and group dynamics using the CASEL Social Emotional Learning framework

  • Planning and offering engaging activities based on your interests and youth ideas—art, drama, movement, music, nature play, building, baking, and more

  • Facilitating large group games and neighborhood walks/explorations

  • Preparing and serving snacks

  • Helping with daily transitions, cleanup, and team collaboration

Social Emotional Learning in Action

Our facilitators intentionally support youth in developing core SEL competencies, including:

  • Self-awareness: Understanding their emotions, identity, and strengths

  • Self-management: Navigating big feelings and making thoughtful choices

  • Social awareness: Practicing empathy and understanding others’ experiences

  • Relationship skills: Communicating clearly, collaborating, and resolving conflicts

  • Responsible decision-making: Considering consequences and making caring, ethical choices

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Truly enjoys working with young people and believes in their capacity and wisdom

  • Has experience in youth work, childcare, education, or community-based settings

  • Is committed to centering social-emotional development and conflict support

  • Practices flexibility, patience, and restorative approaches to group dynamics

  • Has strong communication skills and can work collaboratively with a team

  • Is available on weekday afternoons (typically 2:00–6:30 PM)

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience with self-directed or learner-centered education

  • Skills in arts, movement, games, or outdoor exploration you’d love to share

  • A background in social work, mental health, or community organizing

Requirements

All staff must have or be willing to obtain:

  • Pennsylvania child abuse clearance, state criminal background check, and FBI fingerprinting

  • First Aid/CPR certification

  • Mandated Reporter training

  • CASEL training certificate

Compensation

This is a part-time hourly position. Pay starts at $20–$25/hour. Pay and job title based on experience.

Help us create a space where kids are respected, supported, and free to grow into their full selves. We can’t wait to meet you.
